Rationale

  • A medium through which we who possess the wherewithal could showcase the dexterity and ability of our nation’s youth on our country’s national instrument and thereby generate wider interest in its mastery among the young audience

 

  • A platform of additional exposure for both the national instrument and its use in the execution of different genres of music; as well as the overwhelmingly positive and exuberant effect it has on our youth population

 

  • The opportunity for building self-confidence in the participants; and too, showcasing the myriad of opportunities for self-advancement on the national instrument

Description

Join us in celebrating the vibrant talent of our nation's youth as they master the steelpan, our cherished national instrument. This event is designed to ignite a passion for the steelpan among the younger generation, showcasing its versatility across various music genres. By participating, young musicians will have the opportunity to build confidence, develop their skills, and explore new avenues for personal and professional growth. Let's come together to support and inspire the future of steelpan music, fostering a rich cultural heritage and empowering our youth.

EXECUTION (Competitions):

Competitions:

  1. Flag-Waving Competition: Open to performing bands ONLY, this exciting competition will be adjudicated by a panel of experts in the related field!  Attendees will witness the vibrant display of national pride and synchronized flag-waving as our young performers add a visual flair to their musical presentations.

  2. Best Promotional Video: This category is open to non-performing schools, ONLY! Participants are encouraged to produce a ‘creative promotional video’ capturing moments of freedom, abandonment, confidence, camaraderie, and joy among players and the general audience. The maximum number of students per school is five (5). Submission deadline is Wednesday, September 25, 2024. 

 

PRIZE DISTRIBUTION:

  1. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 placements in EACH of the two (2) categories

  2. Winners in BOTH categories will be announced on October 01, 2024. 

  3. Prizes will be awarded on Tuesday October 08, 2024 (more info will be shared, accordingly).
